Scenario planning is to be better prepared as an organization for environmental changes in future by developing several different future scenarios. Scenarios are not forecasts or backcasts. Scenario planning is based on the notion that future is not predictable. 2 – 4 plausible scenarios are developed, and then risks and opportunities, which are derived from possible changes in future business environment, are considered based on the set of scenarios through “what-if” thinking process. Scenario planning forces team members to extend views to the world.

It is sometimes an uncomfortable process to explore unfamiliar different futures. Some organizations do not fit to the scenario thinking. Thus, we do not agree that all companies should introduce scenario planning. However, through such uncomfortable scenario-development process, which is from analyzing current environment to facing uncertainties towards future, some customers were truly satisfied at the end of the workshops. We support clients’ scenario development by using our expertise on scenario planning, but we will not develop scenarios on behalf of clients. Scenario development is basically clients’ responsibility. That is because, if we develop scenarios by ourselves, clients miss opportunities to think about future by themselves through the scenario development process. We design scenario workshops, which are the core activity in the scenario development process, and facilitate them. During the workshops, scenario frameworks are developed though discussion among workshop attendees. A workshop report is also written by us. Design-Facilitation-Report is our standard services. If requested, we can also support scenario development in detail from the scenario framework by clients.

We basically recommend face-to-face workshops. But we can hold them online with Zoom and/or Miro etc., if necessary.

It is difficult to conclude a full scenario study for a month, because scenario development requires researches. But we can customize our service based on clients’ needs and make it shorter for example by limiting study scope. Please let us know your needs.
